Mike and Laura Jackson are both retired schoolteachers who love nature, traveling, and photography. Mike taught elementary science in Everett, PA and Laura was a high school biology and environmental science teacher in Bedford, PA. She still works part-time for Bedford School District as the director of their environmental center. When Laura retired from classroom teaching in 2007, her retirement present was a trip to Veracruz, Mexico to witness the "River of Raptors" – a phenomenon that they had learned about at a Hawk Mountain Sanctuary presentation a number of years ago. Mike and Laura's photo was taken in Mexico, as they sat on a giant agave. The Jacksons have spent over 20 years as wildlife rehabilitation assistants, tending to orphan and injured wildlife – especially birds. They have also put a lot of work into enhancing their property for wildlife. As PA Forest Stewards, watershed monitors, breeding bird atlasers (for the second time), and organizers of Save Our Allegheny Ridges, they donate many hours of conservation efforts, so that our natural world will be conserved for future generations.
